Abstract

The article examines Russia’s policy in the Caspian region after the signing of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea in 2018. This document allowed Russia to focus its policy on expanding trade and economic cooperation and implementing infrastructure projects in the countries bordering the Caspian sea. Russia began to pay main attention to the development of transport and transport-related infrastructure. In Russia, port construction is considered in the context of solving long-term problems. Expansion of economic cooperation with the subjects of the countries bordering the Caspian sea became a new direction of Russian policy. It is concluded that in the context of the implementation of its policy in the Caspian region, Russia should take into account the increased activity of the Caspian states aimed at expanding economic activity, and the activities of non-regional states that continue to show great interest in the Caspian region.
